Immunologic Aspects of Myasthenia Gravis0

چکیده

Clinical and pathologic features of myasthenia gravis suggest a possible autoim mune etiology. Myasthenia is found in association with other putative autoim mune diseases and autoantibodies including anti-muscle antibodies. There is also in vitro evidence for cell-mediated immunity to muscle in blood and thymic cells as well as a suggestion of antigenic disparity between blood and thymic cells. In addition, two experimental animal models are under investigation. It seems likely that the immune system plays a role in the pathogenesis, but what that role is and how it relates to neuromuscular block is not clear.

Myasthenia gravis and thymoma. Evaluation of 41 patients.

We evaluated the epidemiological, clinical, laboratory and therapeutical aspects of 41 patients with thymomatous myasthenia gravis. Thirty five patients (85.36%) were submitted to thymectomy. Follow-up ranged from two to 18 years. Diagnosis of thymoma was based upon clinical investigations and CT scan of the anterior mediastinum and in 11 patients supported by immunological tests of anti-striat...

Clinical electrophysiology in myasthenia gravis.

Effective diagnostic methods are of great importance in order to recognise myasthenic patients among those with muscle fatigability. Intracellular recordings are useful for research work within the field and for detailed description of the motor end-plate's physiology in the individual case. The method is not used for the routine diagnosis of myasthenia gravis. The decrement of the electrical m...

I-24: New Molecular Aspects in Recurrent Pregnancy Loss

Background Recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) is usually defined as three or more consecutive pregnancy losses before 20th gestational week. Many etiological factors have been considered as cause of RPL including genetic factors, uterine anatomical defects, endocrine abnormalities, thrombotic and immunologic factors. Nevertheless, the cause of RPL remains unknown in around half of the patients desp...

O 29: Autoimmune Myasthenia Gravis Introduction, Immunopathogenesis and Classification

Autoimmune Myasthenia Gravis (MG) is a unique disease among all autoimmune disorders in two ways. First, there are a wide range of sub-specialties involved in the diagnosis and management of MG; secondly MG is an autoimmune disorder whose autoimmunity is well established. In this paper I will cover these topics: history and epidemiology of MG followed by a brief overview on physiology of neurom...

Autoantibodies in myasthenia gravis: demonstration of anti-motor endplate antibody and anti-muscle membrane antibody using membrane immunofluorescence technique.

The presence of specific serum antibodies in five myasthenia gravis patients was demonstrated against the motor endplates and muscle membranes of rats by membrane immunofluorescence technique. The immunologic specificity of the antibodies was confirmed. The clinical significance is discussed.
